The State Fair is Getting Closer!!

While the NC State Fair doesn’t start until Thursday, October 11th, Pender County 4-H traveled to Raleigh yesterday to decorate a round hay bale for the 4-H hay bale decorating contest!  The hay bale was to be decorated around promoting 4-H!  It will be judged on Wednesday, October 10th!  A planning committee was formed to help come up with ideas for the hay bale and then the work began to get all the materials together to go to Raleigh!  We went with a wagon wheel theme inspired by the song by Old Crow Medicine Show.  We changed it to “Rock me “4-H” Like a Wagon Wheel.”

We borrowed the wagon wheel from a friend and the hay bales/mums were donated by Old River Farms in Burgaw, NC.  The signs used were made by Gotta Go Graphics out of Burgaw, NC as well.  In between the spokes of the wagon wheel are 4-H delivery modes: 4-H camps, 4-H clubs, teen programs, community service, volunteerism, and school enrichment.  If you visit the NC State Fair this year, make sure you stop by to see the hay bale display located right inside Gate 11!  There are a total of 8 hay bale displays at the fair this year, some are at Gate 11 and some are at Gate 8 (near the horse complex).

Also, don’t forget to stop by the educational building to see all the 4-H entries!  Pender County 4-H entered several crafts in the fair this year!
