To view a video produced by a Forsyth 4-H member on promoting the 2012 4-H Congress!!  4-H Congress is for 4-H’ers ages 13-18, younger 4-H members may attend Congress part-time if they are district presentation winners.  Congress is held on the campus of NC State University during the 3rd week in July (July 16-19, 2012).  Activities throughout the week include community service, honor club tapping, state presentation finals, banquets, dances, state 4-H council officer elections, workshops, and more!  More information about registering for 4-H Congress will be coming soon!


2012 Youth Market Turkey Show

Are you interested in raising a turkey to show as your 4-H project?  If yes, then this is the right program for you!  Through 4-H, youth can register for young turkey poults, pick the day old poults up in June, and then raise them to show at the NC State Fair on October 12, 2012!  This program is part of NC State University’s Poultry Science Department, more information can be found on their website at: http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/poulsci/4h/turkeyshow/turkeyshow.html

Project Record Books

Final edited project record books are due in the 4-H office by Friday, February 24th!  Trained volunteers will then select the best record books to go on to district judging!  If you have any questions please contact Lauren Langley, 4-H Agent at 910-259-1235 or lauren_langley@ncsu.edu.

4-H Dog Club Interest

A 4-H dog club could be joining the list of 4-H clubs in Pender County very soon!  With that said, are you interested in dogs or learning more about dogs?  The club would focus on dog safety, grooming, obedience, showing, and MORE!  Please leave your comments/feedback on what you would be interested in learning regarding dogs!  If you are interested in dogs and possibly joining this club once it gets started please email Lauren Langley, 4-H Agent at lauren_langley@ncsu.edu or leave a comment on this post!

4-H Achievement Night

Pender County 4-H held their annual Achievement Night awards banquet at the Agriculture Building Auditorium on February 3, 2012.  There were 90 4-H members, parents, and volunteers in attendance for the event.  Special guests were Pender County Commissioner, F.D. Rivenbark and Interim County Manager, Amber Parker.  Youth were recognized for their accomplishments in 2011.  Program entertainment included international exchange student, Anastasiya Pylypenko presenting on her home country of Ukraine and Hampstead 4-H’er, Sara Lucas sang, “When I get my name in Lights” from the musical, “The Boy From Oz.”

Achievement Night is one night out of the year set aside to recognize the 4-H members who participated in 4-H activities or competed in 4-H competitions throughout the year.  Along with the 4-H members, volunteers are recognized for their hard work and commitment to Pender County 4-H.  Please congratulate all the 4-H members and volunteers for their efforts in 2011.

SE District Teen Retreat

The Southeast District Teen Retreat will be held on March 9-10, 2012.  We will meet at the office in Burgaw and leave at 6:30pm and we will get back to the office on Saturday at 2:30pm.  Parents are welcome to bring their teens to the event in Wilmington and pick them up.
Teen Retreat will be held at the New Hanover Extension Office in Wilmington and we will be staying at the Comfort Suites located at 4721 Market Street.
